BLUEPEACE

Bluepeace history

Bluepeace is now in its twenty-first year, the last nineteen events being staged at Victoria Embankment Gardens. The first two were in north east London and featured as part of the annual Leytonstone festival. Although we had funding there, we jumped at the chance to re-locate to central London, feeling it would give the concert a bigger profile.

With our initial backing we were able to attract some well known names from the London blues scene.. However, despite lack of funding over subsequent years, we've had no problem finding performers because of the idyllic location. A number of artists have become regular performers, and most of them join in for the Bluepeace Blues Band finale.

The purpose of Bluepeace has been to raise awareness of environmental issues. In our Leytonstone days we supported Friends of the Earth, but after moving to the Gardens we switched to the Rescuers - a wildlife sanctuary based in Essex - who after many years stopped coming due to retirement of the couple who ran it. They were origionaly recommended to us by wildlife artist Gary Doran, who has kindly provided pictures for our programmes and posters from the third event onwards. From 2018 the South Essex Wildlife Hospital has been our chosen charity.
